LPC Associate
I have a master's degree in Counseling and Human Development, in addition to having experience in the educational area with specialization in Dyslexia. I see all types of patients, from children, adolescents, adults and couples.
I personally have a preference for theories related to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that focuses on how our thoughts, feelings and behaviors are interconnected. I am convinced that a good relationship of trust between client and counselor is vital to obtain the greatest possible benefits. I like my clients to feel welcome, listened to and with the confidence to share their concerns without fear of feeling judged.
The interest in helping others is what led me to seek this profession. Particularly when I had the opportunity to work in a shelter for immigrant children who crossed the border to the United States alone and see the enormous need that they had suffered a lot in their countries of origin, during their journey to the United States. and now they face the uncertainty of knowing what their future was going to be.
Mental health is a topic that fascinates me and I enjoy continuing to learn everything about it, plus it is important to stay up to date. Therefore, I frequently listen to podcasts related to the topic, in addition to other media such as videos, books, meetings with other professionals in the community, and formal training.
I invite everyone to participate in therapy sessions, to give themselves the opportunity to treat it and not to be afraid of being judged. Many times as men we have also been taught to be strong and never show signs of vulnerability. So it is common for us to repress our feelings and worries. Fortunately, these beliefs are becoming a thing of the past and it is becoming more and more common for me to see men.
In our Hispanic population there is a great need for mental health services and it is critical that awareness is raised in our communities of the importance of this. I am motivated to work with this population because it is difficult to find professionals who not only speak the same language as them but also know their culture and traditions. I like that clients feel the familiarity of talking to someone they seem to have known for a long time and can express themselves in a natural way, just as they are.
