Tips for parents of children who feel anxious at school.
Your child should know that feeling anxious is not a character defect.
Your child should know that it is okay to talk about how you feel when you are anxious.
Your child should know that it is okay to ask for help.
Your child should know that feeling anxious does not mean that he/she will not do well in school.
Your child should know that many of his or her classmates also feel anxious sometimes.
Your child should know that some teachers may not know how to help him/her when he/she is anxious and that doesn't mean they don't want him/her.
Your child should know that the school counselor may not offer individual therapy but is definitely an ally who can intervene and help.
Your child should know that feeling anxious is not an excuse for misbehaving or treating others badly and the consequences of this will always be present.
Your child should know that feeling anxious is not a justification for not going to school.
Your child should know that stopping feeling anxious is within his/her control and he/she can achieve it.
