Master Level Intern
I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a minor in Clinical Mental Health. Currently, I am pursuing a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology at Texas Woman's University.
As a mental health case manager, I collaborated with adults diagnosed with mental disorders to manage their emotional regulation and communication strategies to reduce stress. My therapeutic style is based on a multicultural and feminist perspective, which means that it is important to pay attention to how culture and different social contexts can influence mental health. My approach is to provide an inclusive, supportive and flexible therapeutic environment in which people feel comfortable sharing and exploring their experiences.
I was born and raised in Mexico, with limited knowledge and resources about mental health. This experience helped me understand the importance of providing mental health care in Spanish. I am passionate about serving the Hispanic community and destigmatizing mental health. Being part of a research laboratory focused on the mental well-being of the immigrant community helps me stay updated on new techniques and advances in the area of therapy.
Some advice for someone considering starting therapy would be that it is normal to feel nervous and not know where to start. It is not necessary to have a serious problem to start therapy. Therapy is a process, but taking that first step is the most important thing.
