Positive reinforcement can be a great tool for shaping your child's behavior.
The behavior we want to obtain will increase in the future thanks to this type of “reward or favorable event.”
Examples:
How well you are storing your toys!!!
Verbal rewards have to be given when the action is happening so that it has greater impact. Verbal praise will make our son/daughter feel more motivated to continue doing well and do so automatically in the future.
You are making a great effort to finish your meal, let's go for the last bite!
It is very good to emphasize the moments when your son/daughter is really trying, as in this case to finish eating his/her entire plate.
Praise the desired behavior Reinforce appropriate behaviors, guiding so that your son/daughter knows what is expected of him/her. Example: brushing your teeth, reinforce with praise.
You are doing a great job!
When you see that your son/daughter is starting to do something independently, use verbal reinforcement to encourage him/her. Focus on the process and not the way you do it.
Value learning more than results.
Focus on the process rather than the goal. Also remember not to label instead of “you are the best” you can say “the effort you made in this job was the best.”
Celebrate the effort
Following the previous example, we must take into account that sometimes children may not want to do new things or experiences. You can praise the effort, letting them understand that it is not wrong to make mistakes and learn from their mistakes.
