Biography
Ana Marcela has a degree in psychology from the University of Monterrey. After moving to the United States she earned a master's degree in counseling at SMU and became licensed as an LMFT in the state of Texas.
Today, Ana Marcela has her group practice, Therapy Works Counseling around DFW, where her all-Hispanic and bilingual group serves children, adolescents, adults, couples and families in Spanish and English. She is trained in EMDR, and has extensive experience in trauma, grief, infidelity, relationship conflict, anxiety, and depression.
Her focus has always been mental health in the Hispanic community, which has made her one of the strongest leaders and advocates for mental health in this community. She has been invited as a keynote speaker for the Teen Symposium, TAMFT Annual Conference, SMU Hispanic Summit, TWU BIPOC Panel, UNT Multicultural Panel, different ISDs across the metroplex, among other companies interested in learning about mental health in the Hispanic community.
Ana Marcela currently works as an expert on international television networks such as Univision, Telemundo and Estrella TV.
Learning outcomes
-Participants will achieve a deeper understanding of the social differences between Hispanic populations, but always being aware of the uniqueness of each individual.
-Participants will explore different cultural concepts and discuss how those concepts affect each individual's mental state.
-Recognize the cultural barriers that make it difficult to seek mental health care.
-Participants will learn how to approach individuals in the Hispanic community and learn how to use trauma-informed care to learn the personal narratives of each client.
-Participants will learn effective interventions for problems expressed in different generations. -Participants will understand the disparity between generations and how to address it in therapy.-Participants will learn about resources available in the community for people who are unable to address these disparities in their own families.-Participants will be able to identify different transgenerational traumas that affect the Hispanic community.
-Participants will learn effective interventions to break transgenerational trauma.-Participants will learn how to effectively assess and assess Hispanic clients.
-Participants will learn different interventions specific to Hispanic clients.*Zoom link will be sent on Wednesday, February 28.
