The profession of psychologist is one of the most rewarding that exists in the field of social sciences. It is the possibility of knowing a person in depth, of understanding their concerns, their fears, their hopes, their stories. It is holding a space for that person to process, heal, change, discover and rebuild.
It's not an easy task, that's for sure. Psychologists face daily situations that wear us down and challenge us. It requires us to be in constant training, updating and personal growth. But even with all this, it is a profession that fills us with meaning, meaning and personal satisfaction.
As a psychologist, one of the greatest satisfactions I feel is being able to contribute my grain of sand in the process of change and growth of the people who come to my consultation. Each person who enters my office carries with them a unique and personal story, and from there, the therapy process begins.
The most beautiful thing about therapy is that it is not just about helping someone solve a specific problem. It is accompanying that person in the search and discovery of who they are, what their place in the world is, what their values are and what really matters to them. It is, in short, supporting the person in a process of personal growth.
It is gratifying to see how the person takes control of their life, making decisions and choosing paths that they have never allowed themselves to explore before. Seeing how the person feels more and more empowered, more authentic and more sure of themselves is one of the greatest gifts that as a psychologist I have been able to receive.
I know that there are many professionals who think that this profession does not make sense because the results are not always visible, but I believe that, precisely, what makes this profession so special is the non-visibility of the short-term results. Change and personal growth are processes that take time, but when achieved, they are truly transformative.
So, if you are thinking about studying psychology, do it without hesitation. This is one of the most beautiful, challenging and rewarding professions that exist in the world. As a psychologist, you have the opportunity to help people make significant changes in their lives, and that, believe me, is something that is priceless.
