For example, in the same profession men are paid more than women. Why? Machismo and the overvaluation of the role of men.

This is not only a problem for Latin America but for the entire world. Patriarchy is deeply rooted in what machismo is. Until now it is customary for us that the man is the provider of the house, who protects you and gives you security. However, the man knows the position he is in and has abused the status that society gives him. This can be seen in the abuse against women, mistreatment and femicides.

On the other hand we have Marianism. This word comes from the idea that women are submissive, pure and obedient to men. She is the sexist's favorite woman. It is also the idea that the woman has to take care of the house and the children while the man works and earns the money. The woman is not allowed to earn more than her partner. This is how we can see how the concept of machismo and Marianismo are connected.

After reading about these concepts and how they affect our lives, you might say: what now? How can we change something that has been part of our history throughout time? The good thing is that in recent years there has been awareness of the huge problem of the overvaluation of men and the devaluation of women.

So how can we improve this problem? It will be education both at home and at school. Although this problem is systemic and global, the work can be done at home. As a society we must unlearn these stereotypes that cause a lot of harm to humanity.
